Goddess Parvati

Goddess Parvati is the main source of Sakthi, which means the controller of the whole universe.She is the wife of Lord Shiva and mother of Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha. Goddess Parvati has 108 names and each of them has a special meaning. Devotees who chant these names will be blessed for their devotion.Goddess Parvati also took many incarnations and she is often called as divine mother.
In her first incarnation she was called Sati, who underwent many obstacles by her father and married Lord Shiva.After her death, She took another form as Goddess Parvati and after a long penance she won the Love of Lord Shiva and married him.
There are ten forms of Goddess Parvati which represents her different powers. All of these ten forms together are called as Dasamahavidyas. In each of these forms that she undertook to destroy the demons and bless her worshippers.

  1. Goddess Kali is the first form of Goddess Parvati, who was popularly known as the destroyer and Goddess of time.
  2. Tara which is known as the source from which the universe was born and represents the power of Golden embryo.
  3. Sodasi is the third form of Goddess Parvati who represents perfection and fullness.The actual meaning of 'Sodasi' is sixteen years of age.
  4. Vidya Bhuvanevari is the forth form who represents the forces of material world.
  5. Bhairari is the fifth form who represents desires and temptations which some time lead to destruction and death.
  6. Vidya Chinnamasta is the sixth form of Goddess Parvati who represents the cycle of creation and destruction.
  7. Dhumavati is the seventh form who represents destroying the world by five which results in smoke and ash after the destruction.
  8. Vidya Bagala is the eighth form of Goddess who represents cruelty and jealousy, which are the negative aspects of an individual.
  9. Matangi is the ninth form who represents the domination of power.
  10. Vidya Kamala is the tenth form of Goddess Parvati and she is said to be the Goddess of wealth and fortune.
